Dr. Magistro received his PhD in sociocultural anthropology with a concentration in development studies from Binghamton University in 1994. He was a AAAS Diplomacy & Engineering Postdoctoral Fellow in the Africa Bureau at USAID from 1994-1996, and an Advanced Studies Program Fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado from 1997-1999. He is a Research Associate Social Scientist in BARA since the spring of 2006.
Research Interests
Dr. Magistro’s area of primary research investigation involves the political ecology and economy of river basin development in West Africa, and human adaptation to global climate change. Other areas of interest and expertise include: food security and livelihoods studies; smallholder agriculture; water resources management; microenterprise and smallholder market development; biodiversity conservation; environment and natural resources management; conflict analysis and mitigation; gender analysis; and human dimensions of global climate change.
