Traditional Use Study of Saguaro Fruit Gathering
Cultural Resource
Studies
This study is specific to a traditional harvest camp in the west unit
of Saguaro National Park. Park managers have recognized and accepted
the traditional fruit harvest by the Tohono O'odham people since the
land became part of the national park system. By documenting the history
of the camp, its use, and the surrounding land as a traditional harvest
area, this study will provide the park and the Tohono O'odham Nation
with a stronger foundation for developing long-term agreements that
will protect the traditional fruit harvest and its benefits to the
park and the Tohono O'odham people.
